Did you know?

It is the fruit of palms in the Amazon delta; because the flesh is so thin, the berries are softened in water and mashed into a dark purée. Around Belém it is traditionally eaten savoury, with cassava flour and fish, rather than as a dessert.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
