Did you know?

The starch-rich rhizome of the canna lily, one of the oldest crops of the Andes. It is baked slowly, often in an earth oven, and its starch is also extracted for noodles and sweets. Its starch grains are among the largest known in the plant kingdom.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
