Did you know?

A leafy vegetable of the same genus as the aubergine, grown as managu in Kenya and efo odu in Nigeria; the leaves are slightly bitter and are softened by cooking with milk or groundnut. ⚠️ Only the leaves of the species grown as vegetables are cooked and eaten; the unripe fruits of wild species in this genus are poisonous.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
