Did you know?

A spice that looks like a hard brown pod with four wings, dropped whole into soups as prekese in Ghana and aridan in Nigeria, giving a strong sweet-spicy aroma. It is lifted out once the dish is cooked and is not eaten itself. It is a traditional ingredient of postnatal soups.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
