Did you know?

The brick-red coating around its seeds yields one of the world's most widely used natural food colourings, and Amazonian peoples have long used it as body paint as well. Its flavour is very mild; in the kitchen it is used mainly for colour.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
