Did you know?

The large-fruited Mediterranean species of hawthorn, bearing yellowish-red fruits that look like tiny apples. The taste is sweet-tart with a slight mealiness; it is eaten fresh and made into jams and jellies. It is one of the old orchard trees of southern Europe.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
