Did you know?

A fungus that grows singly on oak and chestnut trunks, oozes a red liquid when cut and genuinely resembles raw meat. Its taste is markedly acidic, so it is usually sliced thin for salads or only briefly cooked. It toughens with age.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
