Did you know?

It is the fruit of a palm that grows in stands in wetlands, covered in scales laid like roof tiles. The thin orange layer beneath the hard skin is loosened in water; in Brazil it becomes sweets, ice cream and oil.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
