Did you know?
⚠️ Its raw leaves contain cyanide-releasing compounds and are never eaten uncooked; boiling for at least five minutes breaks them down and makes the leaf safe. A classic green of Maya cooking, it is used like spinach, and should not be boiled in aluminium pots.
Consumption tip
Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
