Did you know?

One of the commonest weeds of gardens and field margins, its tender shoots are eaten raw in salads or cooked like spinach. The taste is mild, faintly like sweetcorn silk, without bitterness. Because it stays green even through winter it is among the earliest spring greens.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
