Did you know?

A green, spindle-shaped fruit unrelated to the olive; too astringent to eat raw, it is salted, candied or simmered in soup. In southern China it is a classic ingredient of the winter soups drunk for the throat. Its name comes only from the resemblance in shape.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
