Did you know?

The small, white, segmented tubers of a plant in the mint family, shaped like a string of beads. Raw they are crisp and faintly sweet, and they are also sautéed in butter. The name comes from the French village where they were first grown in the nineteenth century.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
