Did you know?

A West African spice related to cardamom. It reached medieval Europe by Saharan caravan and spread as a cheaper substitute for black pepper; the Grain Coast of West Africa takes its name from the trade in this spice. Its flavour combines peppery heat with cardamom freshness.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
