Did you know?

Its fruit forms in clusters directly on the trunk rather than on branches, a habit botanists call cauliflory. The thick skin is astringent while the inside is a sweet, grape-like jelly. It spoils three or four days after picking, which makes fresh export nearly impossible.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
