Did you know?

What is eaten is not the fruit but the swollen, fleshy stalk that carries it, which when ripe tastes like dried pear or raisin. In East Asia it is dried and eaten as a snack. The true fruit is a small, hard capsule.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
