Did you know?

A member of the cabbage family and one of the few crops that grows above 4,000 metres; its turnip-like root ranges from yellow to black. Andean communities dry the root, grind it into flour and make porridge, bread and drinks. It is almost never eaten fresh.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
