Did you know?

What is eaten is not the seed but the sweet, mealy tissue of the pod, dried and milled into a flour with a cinnamon-like aroma. For the Indigenous peoples of the Sonoran and Mojave deserts it was a staple for centuries, cropping even in dry years.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
