Did you know?

A wild plant with round, succulent leaves pierced through the middle by the stem, named for the miners of the California gold rush who ate it as a source of vitamin C. Its taste is mild and fresh and it is eaten raw in salads. After spring rains it appears in carpets in shaded ground.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
