Did you know?

A small berry the size of a pea that turns from purple to nearly black as it ripens. Its taste is markedly tart, and in India and Pakistan it is blended with salt or sugar into a cooling summer drink. It spoils within a day or two of picking, so it rarely leaves local markets.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
