Did you know?
It is the world's most expensive spice by weight: each flower yields only three stigmas, and about 150,000 blossoms must be hand-picked for one kilogram. The Turkish town of Safranbolu takes its name from this plant.
Consumption tip
Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
