Did you know?

The dark purple, downy berries of a shrub that carpets the floor of Pacific coastal forests, with a sweet, resinous taste close to blueberry. Coastal Indigenous peoples mashed the fruit and dried it in cakes for winter. The branches are also cut as florists' greenery.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
