Did you know?

A small purple fruit with a bluish bloom that ripens on thorny shrubs. Raw it is astringent enough to dry the mouth; picked after the first frosts it mellows and goes into jams and syrups. It counts among the wild ancestors of the cultivated plum.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
