Did you know?

The tender shoots, tendrils and young leaves of the squash plant. Mexico puts them in soups, while the Philippines and parts of Africa cook them as a vegetable; their downy surface softens with cooking. Since growers thin these vines anyway, the harvest costs no extra ground.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
