Did you know?

The translucent, jelly-like sweet water sacs inside the fruit of the palmyra palm, regarded as the most cooling food of summer under names such as nungu in Tamil Nadu and taal shaash in Bengal. The husk is cut open with a knife to lift the sacs out. As it ripens the fruit turns firm and fibrous and is then used differently.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
