Did you know?
Its skin is thin, velvety-haired and bright red, which gives the fruit its name. A relative of the persimmon, its flesh is creamy and sweet, but the skin carries a pungent smell, so it is usually peeled before eating. In the Philippines it is known as mabolo.
Consumption tip
Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
