Did you know?

A fruit the size of a large grape with a brittle, velvety black shell, enclosing a thin, powdery orange pulp that is sweet-sour. Sold from barrows as awin in Nigeria and yooyi in Ghana, it is a favourite with children. It is related to the tamarind but belongs to a different genus.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
