Did you know?

A relative of purslane with fleshy, water-filled leaves; it grows so quickly that it is available in West Africa all year. Because it cooks in moments it is combined with other greens in stews. It has a faintly sour taste and a mucilaginous texture.

Consumption tip

Even natural produce may carry pesticide residues. Wash fruits and vegetables under plenty of running water and discard the outer leaves of leafy greens. A short soak in vinegar water can also help reduce residues. Where possible, prefer certified organic or good-agricultural-practice products.
