- What it is & how it is made
- A synthetic (azo) red colour. Its source is chemical, not animal.
- Where it is used
- It was formerly used for red colour in some meat products and foods; today it is banned in many places, including the EU.
- Health note
- It has been banned because it converts in the body into a compound called aniline and because of suspected carcinogenic and genetic harm.
- Halal assessment
