What it is & how it is made
The natural green colouring substance in green plants; it is obtained by extraction from plants such as nettle and alfalfa. Its source is plant-based.
Where it is used
Used for green colour in confectionery, ice cream, sauces, oils and some beverages.
Health note
It is a natural plant pigment and is considered safe at ordinary levels.
Halal assessment
Because its source is plant-based it is halal and has been classified as plant-derived. No animal matter is used in its production; only the solvent or carrier is likewise expected to be suitable.
