- What it is & how it is made
- Titanium dioxide, a white mineral pigment.
- Where it is used
- Used for white colour in confectionery, chewing gum coatings, white sauces and tablets.
- Health note
- In 2022 the EU banned its use in food over concerns about possible genotoxicity. It calls for caution from the standpoint of the 'tayyib' (wholesome) principle.
- Halal assessment
- It is mineral in origin and contains nothing animal; however, because of the EU ban and the health debate it has been left as doubtful under the 'halal and tayyib' principle.
