What it is & how it is made: A mineral aluminium pigment giving a silvery appearance (usually in an outer coating).
Where it is used: Used for silvery coating in confectionery and cake decoration.
Health note: Excess aluminium intake has been debated with regard to health; use is limited. Caution is advised from the standpoint of the 'tayyib' (wholesome) principle.
Halal assessment: It is mineral or metallic in origin and contains nothing animal; however, because of the health debate it has been left as doubtful under the 'tayyib' principle.
