- What it is & how it is made
- Vitamin E compounds acting as natural antioxidants. They are generally obtained from vegetable oils (soy, sunflower); a synthetic form also exists.
- Where it is used
- Used in vegetable oil, margarine, crisps, nuts and supplements to prevent fats from turning rancid (oxidation).
- Health note
- It is a beneficial vitamin and is considered safe at food-use levels. There is no known health drawback.
- Halal assessment
- Its source is mostly plant-based. However, because gelatine can be used as a carrier and the source of some forms cannot be verified, it has been left as doubtful under the doubtful-by-default principle until verification arrives. Its plant-based and certified form can be accepted as halal.
