Detailed information
- What it is & how it is made
- A natural antioxidant from the vitamin E family (alpha-tocopherol); it is generally obtained from vegetable oils, and a synthetic form also exists.
- Where it is used
- Used in vegetable oil, margarine, crisps and nuts to prevent fats from turning rancid.
- Health note
- It is a beneficial vitamin and is considered safe at food-use levels.
- Halal assessment
- Its source is mostly plant-based; however, because the carrier (which may be gelatine) is not verified, and under the doubtful-by-default principle, it has been left as doubtful. Its plant-based or certified form can be accepted as halal.
