Halal Accreditation: HAK, GIMDES, JAKIM and International Validity

The validity of a halal certificate depends on the accrediting authority and the recognition of the issuing body in the target market.

A halal certificate's international validity depends on the accreditation behind it. In Türkiye, HAK (the Halal Accreditation Agency) is the official state authority that accredits halal conformity assessment bodies, while GIMDES is among the well-known certification bodies.

In global markets, bodies recognized by authorities such as Malaysia's JAKIM or the accreditation networks of Gulf countries carry weight. Which body to choose depends on the target market.

For exporters, therefore, selecting a body recognized in the destination market is as important as holding the certificate itself.
