How Is a Halal Certificate Obtained and How Are Audits Conducted?
Halal certification consists of application, ingredient and supplier review, on-site facility audit and a contract.
The process begins with the manufacturer applying to an authorized halal certification body. The body requests the list of all raw materials, additives and suppliers and evaluates the source of each component.
Experts then audit the production facility on site: ingredient sources, cleanliness, the risk of cross-contamination with haram substances, and storage conditions are examined.
When the requirements are met, a certificate is issued and maintained through periodic, sometimes unannounced audits. Compliance must be sustained throughout the certificate's validity.
