Organic Technical Criteria: Pesticides, GMOs and Soil
In organic production synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers are banned, GMOs cannot be used, and soil is regularly analyzed.
The fundamental criterion of organic production is a chain free of synthetic chemicals. Synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers cannot be used; instead, natural fertilizers, crop rotation and biological pest control are preferred.
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and ionizing irradiation are prohibited in organic production. These rules must be followed at every stage, from seed to harvest and from processing to packaging.
Soil fertility and content are analyzed regularly, and residue tests confirm the product's cleanliness. The whole process is recorded and audited by independent control bodies.
