In Türkiye antibiotics may be used in chickens only to treat sick animals and only on a veterinarian's prescription; use for disease prevention, growth promotion or higher yield is prohibited. Where treatment is necessary, the legally required withdrawal period is observed before slaughter; the animal may not be slaughtered before that period ends, which prevents residues from passing into the meat. No antibiotic banned in the European Union is licensed in Türkiye, and production is inspected regularly through official controls.
